Christy Parfet was born and raised in Grand Junction, Colorado. She began violin lessons at age 3½ with Nonie Birkedahl and later became the student of Michele Berry. In the seventh grade she became a member of the Mesa State College Orchestra. She was selected to the Colorado All-State Orchestra in her junior year of high school and in her senior year she played in the Colorado All-State Honors Chamber Orchestra. In the summer of 2003 Christy studied violin in Urbino, Italy at the Corsi Internazionali di Musica. Christy enjoys playing with her younger brother Tim, another violinist, for special music and worship at church.
A senior at Union College, she has played all four years with the string quartet, The Golden Cords, under the direction of Dr. Tom Shepherd, touring extensively in the mid-west, with longer tours to New England, Canada, Florida, and California. Last year Christy learned the viola to perform with the Golden Cords, going back to the violin this year. She currently studies with David Neely, associate professor of violin and chair of the string division at the UNL School of Music.
Ms. Parfet plays Bach's Concerto in E Major for Violin and Orchestra, BWV 1042. It is believed that Bach wrote this piece while he was employed by Prince Leopold of Cöthen, a time when Bach's focus was on secular music rather than sacred.
The concerto consists of a strong, vigorous first movement, followed by an expressive Adagio in C# minor. The piece concludes with a joyous Allegro in triple meter.
